Blood & Honey Icon Tree/Water Spirits- Brodarcia Vila – a water sprite
South Slavic Witch, South Slavic Thaumaturgy (miracle manifestation), Bird Goddess, Baba Yaga
Categorized in these topics: Blood & Honey
In this Blood & Honey Icon, we find ourselves back into the arms of the South Slavic Moist Mother Earth through the origin and meaning of words that reflect sister kinship through artist Erin Hilleary's depication of Brodarcia Vila – a water sprite.
Unfortunately, anything associated as exclusively female is maligned and often described as often vicious and cruel, with an evil reputation. Perhaps that is why legends are instructions on how to approach a Vila; with honor and a small dose of healthy fear since Baba Yaga/Mother Nature is fearsomely awesome with her powers of life and destruction. As the legends tell us when we succeed in approaching a Vila properly, she may be inclined to heal, give advice, reveal treasure, or teach magical and medicinal arts.
What is telling is the Brodarcia Vila – a water sprite who acquires a soul only if she marries a human being.
